Lunches will start on Monday 1 March at a cost of £1.65/day, that is £6.60/week, payable on Mondays in advance. There will be no meals on Fridays.
Choices will be made a week in advance so that the Cook at Tomnacross Primary School can order the correct quantities. Under the circumstances, there is an expectation that children who opt to have school lunches will take them every day of the week.
Please ensure your child has the correct money in a named envelope. Cheques should be made payable to Highland Council.

Haiti Fundraising

Science Spectacular

P6/7 are preparing for the second Teanassie Science Spectacular.

Last year it was a great success and we hope this year's will be even better!

The P6/7 pupils have chosen a diverse range of science and engineering topices and have started researching and preparing.

We hope that a photographer from the Inverness Courier will be present and this year we also hope some other important guests will attend, such as the science staff from Charleston Academy.

As ever, all parents and families are welcome to come along and see the spectacular work the children have done!

Traidcraft/School Sale

Even although the day was not as well attended as usual, (probably due to the amount of sickness about!), we raised a STAGGERING £790 on the day!!

If you didn’t manage to attend our day, you can still help by purchasing a School Calendar or Tea-towel. We still have 60 towels and 40 calendars left to sell!

They only cost £4.00 and contain self portraits of all the Nursery and school children. An excellent Christmas present for Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles!

Children's Summer Fair

£230 was raised at the Summer Fair which was organised and run by the pupils on a beautiful Wednesday morning. This is a really great achievement and the money will go into Teanassie School Funds to pay for all the extra items the school needs. Thank you very much to everybody who came along to support us.

Magnus House opening ceremony

4 June 2009 was a big day for Sir John Lister Kay and his Rangers at Aigas Field Centre, near Beauly when Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, came to open Magnus House (named after Magnus Magnusson).
The environmental education centre cost £380,000 to build and has a grass roof, a Scots pine on the inside and local larch on the outside. Around 350 people came to the huge event although only close friends and neighbours of Sir John were allowed inside for the speeches and presentations. Iona Short and Hector Wotherspoon presented a pair of Swarovski binoculars to Prince Charles and a bouquet of flowers was given to Camilla.
A few children from Teanassie and Tomnacross Primary Schools helped the Royals plant trees outside the Magnus House. It was a very good day although a few go wet with the scattered showers here and there!

This event, held at Bught Park, produced some outstanding performances by Teanassie who were runners-up in the Colonel J McIntosh Section and won nine medals – two Gold and 7 Silver. The team consisted of Catriona, Iona, Meiggidh, Ruairidh, Hector, Sophie, Freya, Kyle and Geoffrey (with Finlay Forsyth as sub). Many thanks to Sharon Gallacher for her guidance, unfailing encouragement and time.

Although our new parents’ car park is so much safer than in the past, Mr Danson is concerned that some parents do not collect their children from the school gate but allow them to cross to their car unattended. This is very dangerous given the number of cars and buses negotiating the car park at the end of the day.To avoid an accident, please would you come to the gate and escort your child to your car.

Gaelic singing

Christina Stewart, Feis Rois, is coming into school on Wednesdays to teach the children Gaelic Song. They are learning listening, rhythm, pronunciation, melody and vocal projection.

So far, they have learnt Parts A and B of two Puirt a Beul called Seinn and Brochan lom.

The pupils are learning the songs totally by ear (no written words or instrumental music) and they are using their feet as percussion.

Head Teacher to change ... again!

This week pupils, parents and staff were told by Mr McKenna that he had resigned from his position as Head Teacher and was leaving the school at the end of March.

There will be a Parents meeting on Tuesday 17 February at 7pm in the school.

Parents will have the opportunity of expressing their views regarding the next Head Teacher arrangements. That is, will Teanassie Primary School revert to having a dedicated Teaching Head or will the existing temporary Cluster arrangement prevail, whereby a Management Head is shared with another primary school?

Playtime Porridge

On a Tuesday, you will find Mrs Sharon Martin, Mrs Purvis and the P6s busy making porridge for all the pupils to eat at interval. There are choices of fruit, demerara sugar or honey, served in reusable bowls, at a cost of 50p - proceeds to the P6/7 Enterprise.

This has proved a great success and is a healthy, warm, filling snack on these cold winter mornings.

Farewell to Miss Sommerville

Stable Manners

P6/7 project this term is an Enterprise project. We will be putting on a Christmas Show called Stable Manners and involving the whole school. We are involved from start to finish from casting to catering.

The class also have other roles: choreography, sales and marketing, costume department, props and scenery, personal assistants, script adaptors and technical support.

This type of learning will develop many personal skills including thinking skills, independent learning, creativity, financial skills, teamwork and will develop us further as confident individuals.

Poetry Workshop

P6/7 have been taking part in poetry workshops through Oxfam. They worked with poets from Scotland and Palestine who asked them to bring in items that had special meaning to them to inspire them to write poems.

Blythswood Shoebox Appeal

Dear Parents

We would like to thank you and your children for your support with the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal. We collected 24, filled to the brim shoe boxes that will help lots of children in different countries. Blythswood deliver shoe boxes to many poor countries, such as Romania, Albania, India, Bulgaria and Serbia. In every shoebox, Blythswood adds a bible because it is a Christian charity.These shoeboxes will bring smiles to many faces and let people know they’re not forgotten.

Thinking about thinking

Involving the children in dialogue about their thinking can have interesting results. This article in the Independent was particularly interesting. Some of Teanassie's RME lessons deal with similar issues and involve similar activities. If you are interested in using thinking games with your own child we recommend Robert Fisher's books 'Games for Thinking' and 'Stories for Thinking'.
